About
Helaine Wood
Thank you for considering my practice. As a trained Counsellor and EMDR Accredited Adult Therapist, I am dedicated to providing a supportive environment for healing through both talking therapy and EMDR. With over thirty-three years of as a Registered Nurse, I emphasize nurturing a holistic relationship with my clients. I specialise in EMDR therapy for children and adolescents, offering support to children from aged 2 upwards on their journey toward well-being.

Therapy can be a safe and confidential space for you to process thoughts and emotions without fear of judgement. It provides an opportunity to talk through your feelings and gain a deeper understanding of yourself.
When horrible or scary things happen to a child, the brain can have a tough time understanding what to do about this. Sometimes these worries build up inside us…. imagine it is much like filling up a toy box until it starts to spill over because it is too full….or blowing up a balloon until it bursts because there is too much air in it. Our brains can get too full too!! This can sometimes make us feel sad or mad and feel very frightened or alone. This does not leave much room for nicer, happier thoughts and feelings in our brains and bodies. EMDR helps us to spring clean all the nasty stuff from our brains and bodies and make them feel less ‘full’- but also less scary.
EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, is a highly effective treatment for PTSD that has been recommended by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence). This therapy is designed to help individuals recover from traumatic events and associated issues such as flashbacks, upsetting thoughts or images, depression, and anxiety. With EMD, individuals can find and move forward towards a brighter future.
